Description
A brief history: This is one of the earliest ads for Ritalin - circa 1956.
When Ritalin was first introduced it wasn’t used for then called “hyper-kinetic” (ADHD) children. It was prescribed for depression, narcolepsy, chronic fatigue and over-sedation – Take that Joey Ramone.
Ritalin (methylphenidate) is currently one of the most widely used and recognized drugs as indicated for the treatment of ADHD. The United Nations reports that the United States produces and consumes as much as 85 percent of the worlds production of Ritalin. Furthermore, between 1991 and 1999, Ritalin sales in the U.S. increased 500 percent.
History note: For a short time in the ‘60s Ritalin was sold in combination with other products, in particular a tonic of Methylphenidate, hormones and vitamins that was marketed as Ritonic, intended to improve mood and maintain vitality.
