In marketing Branding is of key importance.  Prada, Jaguar, Bvlgari, Tiffany & Co.; It doesn't matter - They all seek to represent their brand and protect their image.  What separates one from another in competitive industries, beyond the product or service, is the power of brand recognition.  Well guess what - Branding is as important to the Illicit Drug Manufacturers as it is to any business.  It's not something that I have ever really thought about but it makes perfect sense.  The Double UOGlobe Logo is an example of The Golden Triangle's premier Heroin Brand.  I would think in producing an illegal product one would want no trace - but that would be ignorant of the magnitude that this sector of free enterprise operates at.

Oh, by the way - does anyone remember (in the US) the ad councils advertisements  saying that buying drugs supports terrorists?  Well here's a little fact.  The Taliban essentially eradicated Opium Production in Afghanistan.  Check out the following article:

Sorry if I offend, but this war on drugs is criminal.  As a personal statement I do not advocate irresponsible drug use and my heart goes out to the addicts, their families and anyone who has experienced suffering regardless of it's cause.  However, the pursuit of altered states and new experiences is a natural aspect of human nature.  Those who get caught in the grip of an addiction to drugs or otherwise should be able to be treated with dignity, respect, love and compassion.  It is unjust and inhumane to make criminals out of addicts - for their plight is challenge enough. Does anybody else recall the failure of Prohibition and the mobsters it birthed?  It's time to sober up about drug policy and the monsters it feeds.
